Changing the Present
Posted by KC - 06/24/09 at 04:06:18 amIf you are one of those people who are not sure the whole “wedding present” thing (or any present thing for that matter) is for you I encourage you to check out Changing the Present. Changing the Present connects you with more than 1500 meaningful charitable gifts that change the world. Browse by cause or nonprofit to find the perfect gift for friends or for your own charitable giving.
John and Annie have included a link to Changing the Present on their wedding home page along with links to “the usual suspects” like Crate & Barrel and Bed, Bath & Beyond. They were delighted that the first present they received is a set of kitchen towels and a donation to Changing the Present.
There are some really hilarious trailers on the site that poke fun at our affluent, consumer oriented society along with more information on the organisation and it’s advisers.
If you find similar options and opportunities I hope you will share them with me so I can get the information out to our friends and subscribers.
At last….peaches!
Posted by KC - 06/20/09 at 03:06:59 amSo, I’ve been obsessed with peaches for the last 48 hours and today finally made it out to the farmers market at noon to make the buy. No knee jerk decision this… I carefully tasted samples from the three growers there and settled on Johnson’s Peaches from Candor, NC. Candor is about 40 miles west of Pinehurst in the Sandhills area of the state. Not only were the Johnson’s peaches sweeter… the samples were larger! These photos were made with my iPhone. The image quality continues to amaze me. One day I’m going to try photographing an entire wedding with an iPhone….
Enjoy!
Sara and Josh
Posted by KC - 06/17/09 at 09:06:22 amI’ve come to understand that the real value of an engagement session is the chance I have to get to know and work with each couple before their wedding day. While most of us have been photographed by family members all of our lives, few of us have had a photographer following us around for 6 hours constantly recording our every move. Storey Wilkins, a gifted Canadian wedding photographer, calls these interactions “practice sessions” and she is exactly right! At Craige & van Roden we now include a “practice session” as a part of our services for every wedding because it is so valuable in helping the bride, groom and photographer build a relationshop that will be reflected in the quality of the images we make during their wedding.
These photographs from our session with Sara and Josh were made at the farm in Person County where Sara’s mother grew up, and where her uncle now lives. Photographers love finding red barns, front porches and large maple trees to use as “sets” for their work. How wonderful to work with a couple where all of these classic locations are just “home.”
Enjoy!
